OUR WEALTH MUST END OUR SUFFERING
Cameroon possesses immense natural wealth—so vast that we cannot fully account for it—yet millions of our people remain trapped in poverty and unemployment.
Let us pause and think.
One Australian company reportedly controls an exploration footprint of approximately 8,800 km² for rare-earth and associated minerals in Cameroon.
What if resources extracted from our land create thousands of jobs in Australia, enrich foreign shareholders and strengthen industries abroad—while the Cameroonians who live on that land remain unemployed, displaced and empty-handed?
Foreign investment is not the enemy. But investment that exports our minerals, jobs, knowledge and prosperity—while leaving us with poverty and environmental damage—cannot be called development.
We must stop borrowing against the future of unborn generations. We must reject aid that quietly trades away our resources, dignity and freedom. Our natural wealth must build our schools, hospitals, farms, roads and industries—and create dignified jobs for Cameroonians.
This requires:
Meaningful Cameroonian ownership.
Local processing and value addition.
Jobs and technical training for our youth.
Full disclosure of permits, shareholders and revenues.
Fair compensation for affected communities.
Strong environmental and restoration guarantees.
Above all, we must stop fighting, insulting and destroying one another. While we remain divided, others organise themselves to benefit from our wealth.
The solution is clear: unity, responsible leadership and a national strategy that puts Cameroonians first.
We must stop measuring success by the land licensed or tonnes exported. Success is the number of Cameroonian lives transformed.
Our minerals must not create prosperity abroad while leaving poverty at home.
It is time to organise, unite and build a Cameroon whose wealth finally works for its people.
