BAMENDA, Northwest Region — Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has concluded a three-day working visit to Bamenda, the capital of the Northwest Region, with renewed calls for greater discipline, identification and security among commercial motorcycle riders.
A major highlight of the Minister’s visit was a meeting with representatives of the Bamenda City Bike Riders Union, where discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between motorcycle riders and security authorities while improving order and discipline within the sector.
During the engagement, the Minister outlined measures aimed at ensuring that bike riders can be easily identified and properly regulated as they carry out their activities across Bamenda.
Under the new requirements, commercial motorcycle riders are expected to:
- Display a valid motorcycle number plate;
- Wear a common/registered identification jacket;
- Carry a valid National Identity Card;
- Carry a valid driving licence while operating;
- Observe established rules and security measures governing the profession.
The measures are intended to improve the identification of riders, facilitate security checks and contribute to a safer environment for both riders and passengers.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for bike riders to present their concerns and discuss ways in which government and the transport sector can work together to improve security and working conditions.
The riders, many of whom participated in the activities surrounding the Minister’s visit, expressed their willingness to cooperate with the authorities while calling for continued dialogue and support for the motorcycle transport sector.
The three-day visit brought together government officials, security authorities, local stakeholders and members of the motorcycle transport community, underscoring the importance of collaboration in addressing security and transport challenges in Bamenda.
The new identification and discipline measures are expected to become an important part of efforts to bring greater order to the motorcycle transport sector in the Northwest Regional capital.
