Press Release — Update on the Detention of Cho Lucas Yabah (Ayaba Cho) By Barrister Emmanuel Nsahlai On May 5, 2025, the Oslo District Court ruled to extend the detention of Cho Lucas Yabah, also known as Ayaba Cho, for an additional eight weeks, up to June 30, 2025. The Court reaffirmed that Mr. Yabah remains strongly suspected of serious crimes, particularly incitement to crimes against humanity. The Court found that his "executive orders" specifically targeted civilians, which constitutes a grave violation under international law. Due to the seriousness and international dimension of the case, and the risk of flight, the Court concluded that detention must continue. Alternative measures such as bail or passport confiscation were deemed insufficient. It is expected that a full trial may take up to two years to commence, but Norwegian authorities emphasized that the continued detention is compatible with international human rights standards, given the complexity ...
