REBUILDING HOPE: PM Dion Ngute Rallies Stakeholders in Buea for NW/SW Reconstruction Drive
“Peace may be fragile, but progress is undeniable.” That was the powerful message echoed by Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute today in Buea, on May 30, 2025, as he chaired the 6th Session of the Steering Committee of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions (PPRD-NW/SW).
Held at Mountain Hotel on May 30, 2025, the high-level meeting convened a formidable lineup of national and regional stakeholders, including the Ministers of Finance, Decentralization and local Development and other government officials, elites, Governors of the two regions, municipal and regional authorities, and grassroots actors.
Also present were Prof. Fru Angwafo III, President of the North West Regional Executive Council, and Fon Yakum Kevin Teuvih, Vice President and President of the House of Chiefs both visibly engaged in the day’s deliberations. Their presence affirmed their commitment rebranding and rebuilding the region back better brick after brick.
With Cameroon’s twin crisis-torn regions gradually stabilizing, the gathering focused on evaluating progress and refining strategies around infrastructure revival, economic empowerment, resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and strengthening decentralization.
In his stirring address, PM Dion Ngute acknowledged the “slow but steady” return of serenity across towns and villages in both regions. “This progress,” he emphasized, “is not accidental. It is the result of deliberate, inclusive government action addressing long-standing grievances, as charted during the Major National Dialogue.”
The PM further reminded stakeholders that the government has never wavered in its commitment to the legitimate aspirations of the English-speaking populations. “Before, during, and after the Major National Dialogue, concrete measures were taken. Today is a testament to that continued resolve,” he declared.
Committee President and Minister Delegate, Paul Tasong laid out the 2025 roadmap, showcasing tangible milestones, from road networks restored to micro-projects empowering grassroots economies; a blueprint that prioritizes revamping the agro-industrial sector, boosting local governance, and accelerating the dignified return of IDPs.
“We are not where we used to be,” the PM declared, “but we are moving together.”
As Cameroon inches forward from crisis to resilience, today’s meeting marked more than a routine check-in. It signaled renewed resolve, collective responsibility, and national healing.
As the curtains fell on the day’s deliberations, one message echoed: the North West and South West are not forgotten. They are being rebuilt brick by brick, life by life, with peace and development as the foundation. This is not just reconstruction. It is resurrection. In these two english speaking regions once gripped by uncertainty, a new narrative is being written one brick, one dialogue, one returned family at a time.
