The Minister of Mines, Industry and Technology Development (AI) Pr FUH CALISTUS GENTRY today presided over a working session with the EITI International Secretariat.
Visiting Cameroon as part of a working visit with the different actors involved in the process of implementing the EITI standard in Cameroon (MINFI, MINMIDT, SONAMINES, Civil Society, SNH), Mr. NASSIM BENNANI, Regional Director for Francophone Africa and Middle East and AHMAD ZOUARI, Manager Countries with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) are on a working visit to reinvigorate and accompany Cameroon in its process of implementing the EITI standard, especially after the suspension of our country at the end of the last validation.
In order to implement corrective actions, the Head of the Ministerial Department presented to his hosts the efforts of the government, especially MINMIDT, to bring the country out of suspension. Among other things:
The systematic publication of all signed mining conventions, all mining titles and their various annexes on the official website of the Ministry www.minmidt.cm
The effective separation between simple mining and semi-mechanized mining in accordance with the Mining Code of 2023 etc.
These initiatives aim to improve the business climate in Cameroon and attract investors to a country in the middle of transition to becoming a mining producer.
While welcoming this working visit, Professor FUH CALISTUS GENTRY GENTRY reiterated that all these measures are being taken for the country to regain its preferred place in the international secretariat.
