North West born, Cameroon’s former Prime Minister, H.E Yang Philemon leaves seat for a German Former Foreign Minister.
As the Yang Philemon’s terms as the president of the 79th UN General Assembly draws to an end, Annalena Baerbock, former German Foreign Minister, has been unanimously elected as President of the United Nations General Assembly.
She will assume office in September 2025, succeeding outgoing President Yang Philemon, former Prime Minister of Cameroon.
Baerbock's election ensures continued diplomatic leadership from diverse global regions, with her one-year term focusing on multilateral cooperation and strengthening the UN's role in global governance.
Her appointment was confirmed during yesterday's General Assembly session in New York.
