The newly elected North West representative of the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Artisanat, Edison Fru Ndi, has been all praise for the business community in the North West for standing by him throughout his journey to the national executive bureau of that prestigious institution. The joyful outburst was expressed on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Bamenda, following his election on June 2, 2025, in Douala.

As the newly elected North West representative, Fru Ndi expressed his gratitude to his supporters, saying, "This honor is not mine alone. It's a reflection of the trust and confidence that many of you have placed in me, and I do not take that lightly." Fru Ndi emphasized the responsibility that comes with his new role, stating, "Being elected to serve in this capacity is not simply a title; it's a responsibility to represent the interests of our business community with integrity, energy, and vision." He pledged to support entrepreneurs, champion innovation, and create an environment where businesses can thrive.

As a renowned business mogul, Edison Fru Ndi has made significant contributions to the economic and social development of the North West region. He is the CEO of Dreamland Holdings, which includes Dreamland Restaurant, Dreamland Cabaret, and a FCFA 2 billion gravel production plant that produces 250 tonnes of gravel per hour, providing hundreds of jobs for youths. Fru Ndi has also been recognized for his philanthropic efforts, donating to health facilities, especially during the COVID-19 period when he donated thermofashes to health facilities, schools, and local communities. He has also been instrumental in reducing insecurity and addressing water shortages in the city of Bamenda by providing streetlights and digging boreholes in schools and communities.

Before his election to the national bureau of the Chamber of Commerce, Edison Fru Ndi was the North West Regional President of the Chamber of Commerce and President of the North West Contractors' Syndicate (NOWECOSY). He is also the winner of the 2020 Development Champion Award by The Guardian Post newspaper for his selfless contributions to the development of the North West Region.

The Sunday reception event, organized by Edison Fru Ndi's friends in the city of Bamenda, saw him receive another award from the Life Time Media Group, recognizing his lifetime services to the community. The "Thank You" event, attended by, among others, Bamenda II Mayor Chenwi Peter and former Deputy Mayor of the Bamenda I Council, Sangong Denis (alias "Lion"), witnessed an outpouring of encomiums for the newly elected Chamber of Commerce representative from friends and business colleagues, including Godwin Chia, President General of the Bamenda Markets Association.

Edison Fru Ndi's resilience and determination have enabled him to maintain and sustain his business despite challenges, including the ongoing conflict in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon. His commitment to empowering youths and his determination to contribute to the growth of the economy have earned him recognition and admiration from the community.

The Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, established in 1921, plays a vital role in promoting and supporting the development of the country's economy. As a non-governmental organization, it represents the interests of businesses and entrepreneurs, providing a platform for dialogue and collaboration between the private sector, government, and other stakeholders. The Chamber's mission is to foster economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development in Cameroon.

The concept of a Chamber of Commerce dates back to 1599 in Marseille, France, where it was established as a city council-backed organization. The first known use of the term "Chamber of Commerce" occurred in the 17th century. In the United States, the oldest Chamber of Commerce was established in New York in 1768 by a group of merchants and was chartered by King George III two years later. The Charleston Chamber of Commerce in South Carolina, formed in 1773, is another early example.

Over time, Chambers of Commerce have evolved to adapt to changing business needs. Initially, they focused on protecting and promoting commerce by organizing markets, enforcing trade rules, and protecting goods in transit. They are also involved in attracting new industries to their communities. As Chambers recognized the importance of a prosperous community, they began to focus on civic and commercial development. Today, Chambers of Commerce play a vital role in supporting businesses and communities.

Their relevance includes advocacy, networking, community development, and business support. In the area of advocacy, chambers lobby for laws and regulations that benefit businesses and promote economic growth. Through networking, chambers provide opportunities for businesses to connect, collaborate, and exchange ideas. In community development, chambers work with local governments and organizations to improve the business environment and quality of life. For business support, chambers offer resources, training, and services to help businesses thrive.

With Fru Ndi's fresh inputs, the Chamber is poised to make a significant impact on the country's economic landscape.
