On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the 6th edition of the Bamenda I Peace and Unity Tournament was officially launched under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Peter Taniform, a visionary leader and prominent figure in the Bamenda I Subdivision. This initiative showcases the unwavering dedication to fostering social harmony and unity within the community.
Originally established in 2015 as the Unity and Peace Crusade, this tournament has grown to become a significant symbol of camaraderie and solidarity in the region. This year’s edition promises an exciting array of activities designed to promote peace, unity, and youth development, all while celebrating the rich cultural heritage unique to Bamenda I Subdivision.
The traditional opening ceremony was a vibrant celebration featuring the installation of tournament officials, heartfelt speeches, and Olympic-like performances that captivated the audience. Esteemed guests, including the Divisional Officer (DO) of Bamenda I Subdivision, the Mayor of Bamenda I Council, the City Mayor of Bamenda, and the North West Regional President of the National Youth Council, were present to mark the beginning of a series of engagements focused on promoting coexistence, peace, and unity amongst all residents.
The tournament's kickoff match between Ntahgang Youths and Bujong United took place at the lively Bujong community field in Bamendakwe village. The thrilling game concluded with Ntahgang emerging victorious with a score of 1-0, igniting excitement for the matches to come.
Mayor Mbigha Felix Njah of Bamenda I Council in his welcome address described Dr. Peter Taniform as blessing to the people of Bamenda I Municipality. Praised his endless contributions to bringing peace and normalcy in Bamenda I Subdivision. 
While on his part, Mboh Barnabas, the Divisional Officer of Bamenda I, who launched the 6th edition of the peace and unity tournament saluted the convener and sponsor for his development oriented spirit.
In his passionate address to the media, Dr. Peter Taniform, a passionate peace advocate, game changer and pacesetter underscored the importance of sustainability in peace-building initiatives. He highlighted that peace should not merely be a destination but rather an ongoing journey that requires collective effort. His vision for the tournament extends beyond the boundaries of the North West region, aiming to empower youth through sports while fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among the diverse population of Bamenda I Subdivision.
The accomplished engineer, economist, and researcher also drew attention to the economic ramifications of instability in the region. He pointed out the detrimental effects of "Ghost Town" days on local businesses and youth opportunities. Dr. Peter Taniform urged the youth to take personal responsibility for their actions while prioritizing peace and unity in their communities, remarking, "It’s a misguided choice to act against your own interests and then expect to thrive."
He illustrated his point with poignant imagery: "You shoot your legs, then desire to wear the best shoes, and also complain about the pain; you cannot expect comfort from the very actions causing your discomfort."
The holiday tournament will also feature a handball competition, cultural manifestations, and a cleanliness competition among various quarters of Bamenda I Subdivision, all designed to foster community spirit and togetherness among people from diverse backgrounds. Dr. Peter Taniform expressed hope that the tournament would facilitate stronger bonds between the administration and the local populace, fostering a peaceful and serene environment as the region approaches critical upcoming elections.
The sponsor, Dr. Peter Taniform addressing the population at Bujong community field, specifically recognised and saluted the unflinching support of the Director General of the Douala Port Authority, Cyrus Ngo'o through his prestigious institution. This, according to the visionary leader, Dr. Taniform has significantly contributed to the peace that reigns in Bamenda I Subdivision.
