Territorial Administration: Paul Atanga Nji tours country's 10 Regions to safe face of nation ahead of Oct 12 election s

The Minister of Territorial Administration (Minat), Paul Atanga Nji, has begun a tour of the ten regions of Cameroon in the lead-up to the presidential election on October 12, 2025. The stated objective is to ensure the administrative and security preparedness of the country in order to guarantee a peaceful, transparent election in accordance with Article 43 of the Electoral Code.
After an initial stop in the Centre region, the Minister traveled to Bertoua, the regional capital of the East. Welcomed by Governor Grégoire Mvongo and local authorities, he gathered administrative officials, law enforcement, and regional delegates from Elections Cameroon (Elecam) this Monday, September 22. According to Paul Atanga Nji, this consultation aims to ensure effective coordination of logistical and security arrangements, both at the regional level and in the country's 360 subdivisions.
The tour is based on two major issues, one security-related and the other political. On the security front, the Minat insists on the need to prevent any attempt to disrupt public order. The constant vigilance of local authorities is crucial to protect property and people before, during, and after the election. In a context marked by political tensions and a history of post-election violence, this security dimension is considered crucial for the credibility of the process.
On the political front, the message is clear: electoral actors must adopt responsible behavior."Candidates must show responsibility by avoiding tribalism, invective, political overbidding, and calls to disrupt public order, so as not to plunge the country into chaos. Politicians should have a responsible discourse, far from sowing discord, said Paul Atanga Nji. This warning underscores the sensitivity of the political climate, where rivalry between candidates and parties can have significant local repercussions, particularly in regions historically prone to socio-political tensions.
The Minister also stressed the importance of the media in preserving social cohesion and living together, calling on them to avoid disseminating hateful or divisive rhetoric. In addition, he confirmed the upcoming accreditation of electoral observers"in order to ensure the transparency and sincerity of the vote throughout the territory".This measure could strengthen confidence in the electoral process, while highlighting the administration's willingness to respond to criticism from national and international observers.
The tour of the ten regions is a real test of the State's ability to organize a peaceful election in a sensitive political and security context. It will also verify the availability and distribution of electoral materials, the smooth collaboration between the administration, Elecam, and the security forces, as well as the reaction of local populations to the prevention measures put in place.
Beyond logistics, this tour aims to project the image of a mobilized and determined administrative apparatus, capable of guaranteeing a smooth election. In fact, it is part of a broader electoral risk management strategy, which combines security, political awareness, and control of media communication.
