Post-Electoral Unrest: The Far North Rejects Manipulation and Reaffirms Its Commitment to Truth and Peace
This was one of the key messages delivered by Paul Atanga Nji on 10 November 2025 in Maroua. On a mission to the Far North Region, the Minister of Territorial Administration conveyed a message of peace from the Head of State amid post-election tensions. The message was delivered during a security meeting he chaired in the presence of administrative authorities and defence and security forces, with the objective of restoring public confidence through the return of calm and the assurance of protection for people, property, and economic activities.
Paul Atanga Nji explained that his visit formed part of a post-election assessment mission following the 12 October presidential poll, and outlined the key points of the Head of State’s inauguration speech of 6 November, describing it as a true roadmap for the coming years.
On behalf of the Head of State, the Minister praised the professionalism of defence and security forces in managing the demonstrations without causing irreversible damage. He also commended administrative authorities for their guidance and supervision of security operations, which helped to restore order and safety throughout the region.
According to reports from the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari, some 300 youths aged between 12 and 17, acting under the influence of drugs and other substances, were arrested during operations aimed at securing people and property in certain localities.
In response, the Minister called on parents to educate their children about respect for the rule of law and the values of peace, urging them not to be manipulated by malicious groups.
> “We must teach our children civic responsibility so that they do not find themselves in conflict with the law,” he declared.
Emphasising the need to strengthen national unity, peace, stability, and peaceful coexistence, Paul Atanga Nji urged the communities of the ‘eldest daughter of the Renewal’ to continue fostering harmonious living among the region’s various sociological groups.
He reaffirmed the authorities’ determination to track down troublemakers wherever they may hide so that law and order prevail, reminding all that Cameroon is a serious nation that must not fall into the hands of adventurers and instigators of chaos.
The people of the Far North, he noted, rejected attempts at manipulation intended to sow division, and reaffirmed their trust in the truth that emerged from the ballot box. They refused to follow the dictates of irresponsible politicians, devoid of faith and law, and to succumb to disinformation and hate speech propagated by certain political actors on social media “aimed at destabilising the entire nation and plunging it into chaos,” the Minister concluded.
