ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS DAY

I wish to extend my warmest congratulations and sincere commendation to Mr. Edwin Fongod Nuvaga, Director General of Customs, on the successful organisation and celebration of International Customs Day, held today in our nation’s capital, Yaoundé.

First and foremost, I express my personal appreciation to you, Mr. Director General, for the honour of being invited to take part in this important national and international event. Your gesture reflects your inclusive leadership style and your respect for institutions and stakeholders who share a common commitment to national development.

The ceremony was not only well organised but also highly symbolic, reflecting the growing importance of Customs in the economic, security, and developmental architecture of our country. The event clearly demonstrated the strategic role played by the Customs Administration under your dynamic and visionary leadership.

I was particularly pleased by the strong and well-deserved commendations showered on you by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Louis Paul Motazé, who publicly acknowledged your outstanding leadership and the remarkable performance of the Customs Administration under your stewardship. The Minister highlighted the critical contribution of Customs to revenue mobilisation, which remains a backbone of national development and public investment.

Beyond revenue, the Minister equally emphasised the indispensable role of Customs in national security, notably in the fight against smuggling, trafficking, counterfeit goods, illicit financial flows, and other transnational threats. He acknowledged Customs’ vigilance in protecting citizens from dangerous and substandard products, safeguarding the environment, and supporting peace and stability through close collaboration with defence and security forces.

These words of praise from the Minister of Finance are a clear testimony to the confidence placed in you at the highest level of government. They equally reflect the professionalism, discipline, innovation, and results-oriented approach that now characterise the Customs Administration under your leadership.

Allow me to commend you for inspiring your teams, strengthening institutional credibility, and positioning Cameroon Customs as a modern, effective, and respected administration, capable of meeting both national priorities and international obligations.

Once again, congratulations on this successful celebration of International Customs Day. I wish you continued strength, wisdom, and success as you carry on with this noble mission in the service of our nation.
