Tubah Council has recruited close to 200 students into its 2026 long holiday employment programme, reinforcing its commitment to youth development, skills acquisition and civic participation across the municipality.

The recruitment exercise, completed on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, offers students an opportunity to gain practical work experience while remaining productively engaged throughout the holiday period. The initiative is designed to expose participants to public service, strengthen their understanding of community development and prepare them for future professional responsibilities.

A major feature of this year's programme is a partnership between the Tubah Council and the University of Bamenda. Under the arrangement, participants will be divided into groups of 50 for structured training sessions delivered by university resource persons.

The training will focus on civic rights and responsibilities, citizenship, leadership, ethical values and community service. Organisers say the programme seeks to equip young people with knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to contribute meaningfully to local development.

Beyond the educational component, the employment programme provides students with temporary income, helping many of them meet personal and academic expenses during the holiday. Council officials believe the initiative also promotes financial responsibility while exposing participants to workplace expectations and teamwork.

The programme has become a regular feature of the administration of Mayor Tanjong Martin, who has consistently prioritised youth centred initiatives during the long vacation. The council views the annual exercise as an investment in the next generation by creating opportunities that combine learning, employment and public service.

Officials expect the participants to support activities in different sectors of the municipality, including environmental sanitation, administrative services and other community based assignments, allowing them to translate classroom knowledge into practical experience.

By integrating employment with civic education and professional mentoring, the Tubah Council aims to nurture responsible citizens, strengthen community participation and develop a pool of young people equipped to contribute to the municipality's future growth. The initiative reflects the council's long term vision of preparing students not only for the labour market, but also for active citizenship and sustainable local development.
