POLITICAL OPINION:
THE GREATEST BATTLE FOR CAMEROON IS NOT BETWEEN ITS PEOPLE, BUT FOR ITS FUTURE (DR. DAVID MAKONGO)

Many Cameroonians are not acting out of hatred for their country—they are reacting to years of disappointment, hardship, insecurity, and the feeling that their voices do not matter. Some seek a separate future, some leave in search of opportunity, some withdraw from public life altogether, and others, out of desperation or poor choices, turn to crime, drugs, prostitution, or scams.

We may understand why these paths are chosen, but understanding is not the same as accepting them as our destiny.

Our greatest strength has never been division. Before we were divided by politics, language, or colonial history, we were people with shared communities, shared dignity, and a shared future. That truth has not disappeared.

Cameroon does not need more fear, more hatred, or more silence. It needs principled leadership, accountable institutions, justice, peace, reliable infrastructure, quality education, energy, industries that transform our natural resources at home, and citizens who believe their country is worth building.

A few may become wealthy through conflict, corruption, or division, but no nation has ever prospered that way for long. The lasting path to prosperity is unity, integrity, hard work, and a commitment to the common good.

A NEW CAMEROON BEGINS WHEN WE REMEMBER WHO WE ARE.
Let us recover our self-awareness as one people. Let us choose dignity over despair, responsibility over indifference, and nation-building over division.

CAMEROON IS NOT BEYOND REPAIR—A stronger, freer, more prosperous Cameroon remains possible—but only IF WE CHOOSE TO BUILD IT TOGETHER.
