SCANDAL ON NATIONAL ROAD No. 5: DOUALA–BAFOUSSAM! THE SUFFERING HAS GONE TOO FAR

Dear fellow citizens,

Since the Minister of Public Works told Parliament that the nightmare on the Douala–Bafoussam road is “not true,” we will counter this denial with names and facts! While he sits in his air-conditioned office with his eyes closed, road users are losing their lives and destroying their vehicles in potholes and massive road craters. Our economy is suffocating.

Today, as a Member of Parliament, I am breaking the silence and explicitly naming the actors behind this road fiasco:

1. CABTÉ: BILLIONS SPENT, BUT WHAT RESULTS?

The company CABTÉ was awarded the contract for so-called “comfort works” and the treatment of critical points along the Békoko–Nkam Bridge–Bandjoun corridor.

The reality on the ground: a crushing failure. Filling craters with temporary patches that wash away after the first rain is not engineering; it is a waste of public funds! Why does the State continue to approve CABTÉ’s invoices while the road is collapsing before our very eyes?

2. THE MYSTERY SURROUNDING THE CFA 179 BILLION RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The financing has reportedly been secured! The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) granted a massive CFA 140 billion loan, supplemented by Cameroon’s Public Investment Budget (PIB). The project is divided into five specific lots:

Békoko–Loum

Loum–Nkongsamba

Nkongsamba–Nkam Bridge

Nkam Bridge–Bafang

Bafang–Bandjoun

The question is: Which companies are behind the allocation of these lots, or what is blocking the launch of the major works while transport agencies and road users continue to suffer? The people have the right to know who has been entrusted with rebuilding these vital road networks!

The Ministry of Public Works (MINTP), with its annual budget of CFA 651 billion, is showing what amounts to culpable complacency. Paying toll fees to drive on a “cemetery of asphalt” is an insult and an intolerable disregard for citizens.

My firm actions in Parliament during the November session:

1️⃣ I will demand the immediate publication of the specifications and inspection reports concerning CABTÉ’s works.

2️⃣ I will demand full transparency regarding the allocation of the five IsDB reconstruction lots, so that no incompetent contractor can sabotage this vital corridor for selfish interests.

To you, citizens and road users:

Since the Minister says it is “false,” flood social media with evidence. Take photos of the impassable sections, mention the worst stretches in the comments, and force them to face the truth!
