Minister Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration and Joseph Beti Assomo, on a working visit to the Far North

Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration and Joseph Beti Assomo, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence are on a working visit to the Far North Region at the instance of the Head of State, President Paul  Biya.

The joint mission is to evaluate the effects of the recent Boko Haram atrocities in the area and to distribute presidential relief material to the internally displaced persons.

At the event ground, Joseph Beti Assomo stated that of late Boko Haram insurgencies have wrecked havoc in Logone and Chari Division as well as in Mayo Sava and Mayo Tsanaga Divisions. The MINDEF boss said Boko Haram is the number one enemy of the state. He added that Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and Niger that are affected by Boko Haram have created a multinational mixed force to fight the insurgents. Beti Assomo anounced the creation of a special force of 1000 persons code-named BIR Lake Chad composed of specially trained men to fight Boko Haram, that has taken into the killing and kidnapping of civilians in villages that do not have military presence. He said a meeting will be held to discuss on how to reinfoce local vigilante groups that can help provide timely information to pre-empt insurgencies. He frowned at politicians who are using the Boko Haram attacks to reap poltical capital. He tasked politicians to allow the state confront Boko Haram.

Atanga Nji Paul said 1000 families are earmarked for the relief material from the Presidential Couple, thus amounting to more than 5000 people benefiting. The gifts  from the Presidential Couple comprises of two bags of 50kg rice, buckets, 5 bottles of vegetable oil, sardines,salt, sugar, confectionries, sleeping mats, kettles and toileteries.

According to the MINAT boss, the distribution will continue in Makary and Hile Alifa in the days ahead
