BAFUT’S DEVELOPMENT STORY: NGWAKONGOH LAWRENCE TURNS CHALLENGES INTO ACTION
By The lion's FACE MEDIA
Bafut Council Mayor Lawrence Ngwakongoh is steering the municipality through a challenging period, with his administration focusing on practical development projects aimed at improving the lives of residents. Since taking office, his leadership has placed attention on roads, education, agriculture, community infrastructure and support for vulnerable groups, while navigating the wider socio-economic difficulties affecting the North West Region.
Infrastructure remains one of the visible areas of his administration. The council has invested in road maintenance and acquired a road grader to improve access to Bafut’s villages and facilitate the movement of people and farm produce. Other projects have included road rehabilitation, community facilities and interventions in basic services, reflecting the council’s efforts to respond to long-standing infrastructure needs.
Beyond physical infrastructure, Ngwakongoh’s administration has also promoted local economic activity and community participation. Support to farmers, women, young people, artisans and other vulnerable groups has featured in the council’s development initiatives, while events promoting locally produced goods have provided opportunities for Bafut’s small-scale producers to showcase their work and reach wider markets.
With Bafut covering a large number of villages and facing continuing development challenges, the mayor’s tenure remains centred on turning limited council resources into projects with direct community impact. Roads, agriculture, youth empowerment and essential public infrastructure continue to shape the council’s development agenda as Bafut works towards stronger local economic activity and improved public services.
